The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) has ordered the immediate closure of Omnicare Medical, known as Body by Design, due to serious violations of health and safety regulations as stipulated in CAP 253 of the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Act.
This comes after reports emerged about a woman’s death allegedly following a surgery at the clinic.
Amid rising concerns expressed on social media, former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, along with worried residents, stormed the clinic’s Nairobi offices on Thursday, demanding answers after multiple reports indicated that botched surgeries may have resulted in deaths.
The hospital also released a statement saying that they were deeply saddened by the passing of one of their patients, Lucy.
They also stated that they had launched investigations into the death of the late Lucy. Part of their statement read:
“We are committed to upholding the highest standards of care and transparency. As such, we have launched a thorough investigation into the events leading up to this tragedy. Our team is collaborating closely with relevant authorities to ensure a full and objective review. At Omicare Medical Limited. We understand that this is a challenging time for everyone involved. Out of respect for the family’s privacy and to allow for the investigation to proceed unhindered we are unable to provide further details at the time.”
